5 Things That Great Talent Wants

The first 3 things, you'll recognize from hearing over and over again. They're the things that you would pretty much think would be there.

Great talent wants to...

1. Make more money, more consistently.

2. Offer a client experience they are proud of.

3. Have more freedom.

Interestingly, none of these mean a thing unless you make them mean something. This is really critical and goes back to the idea of being a great coach and asking great questions out of curiosity and care for the person. Because if you can't attach meaning to these 3 things, they are meaningless to the other person. Money without meaning is meaningless. A great client experience without meaning is meaningless. Freedom on your schedule, but no meaning behind what you're going to do with it... it's meaningless.

The moment I connect the dots of what more money, more freedom, and a better client experience could mean to this individual person, is the moment that their perspective begins to change.

Now, these final 2 things are actually the most desired. These are the things that compel great talent to make a move. They’re also the stickiest things, that help keep great talent and drive retention. They are...

4. Feeling like they have a seat at the table, and that their voice has significance.

5. Strong leadership.

You demonstrate these 2 things through your Candidate Journey and the quality with which you engage with someone. If you can effectively demonstrate these 2 things, now all of a sudden your tech, your pricing, your comp, your products, none of that stuff matters even a fraction of what it would otherwise.
