How to Distinguish 1 in 100 Talent

Talent's pretty easy to identify in reality, and what we're looking for is the person who's determined to grow.

How do you tell a person’s sense of determination? It’s apparent in the attitudes, mindsets, and habits that they bring to their day to day life. If you think about it that way, that's really what you're vetting for.

This is really powerful because one of your best categories to recruit from is what we call emerging talent.

Emerging talent, by the way, can come at any stage in a person's career. So, it could be a new producer who is emerging and growing to that next level and they're determined to get there. Emerging talent can also be someone who's been in this business for 10 years and has had 10 ‘one-year careers’ and then finally something shifts in their world and now- bam!… they're ready to go, and if they can find the right person to coach them to success, they'll achieve it. Emerging talent can also be the person who is a $100 million producer just because they're naturally good at what they do and how they do it, but they could become a $300 million producer if they had the right coaching around how to be able to get there.

So you're looking for the person who is emerging talent, no matter what stage they’re in, and one major indicator of emerging talent is… are they coachable?

The easiest people in the world to coach are the people who are most successful and most driven.

So, the more responsive they are to your coaching questions and the more willing they are to look in the mirror and be honest about what's working and what's not- that's a key identifier of talent.
