Money Without Meaning Is Meaningless

Let’s talk about money for a second.

Let’s say you want to make more of it. Most people do.

What does that do for you?

And here’s where it’s up to you to not be lazy with your questioning. It’s time to really get into the specifics. What does more money really mean for your business? What does more money really mean for your family? What current problems do you have that would simply go away if you could write a check to cover them?

My daughter’s tuition next year is 40-grand. I’ve got another kid starting at 40-grand. Is that a problem? …not if I can write a check for it. It’s a problem if I can’t. And as a father, having my kids go through school without being saddled with debt, and being able to go to the school of their choice is immensely important to me.

That’s how a simple statement about wanting to make more money can become a very meaningful conversation about what matters most, because we all know that money matters to each of us, for unique and varying reasons. If we want to help someone expand and enrich their understanding around why money matters to them, and be able to match our value proposition to their answer in a way that actually gets them to move… we have to be able to dig deeper and help them in those questions to better understand what it is they truly envision for themselves.
